NSA GenCyber
- Project name: GenCyber Student Camp 2025
- Dates: 2024-2026
- Description: The GenCyber student camp targets underrepresented minorities and female students from Arizona’s inner-city, rural, and reservation schools, aiming to bridge the cybersecurity skills gap. Through red team and blue team activities aligned with GenCyber Cybersecurity Concepts, participants engage in a 30-hour immersive experience on GCU’s campus. Designed for high school juniors and seniors, the Camp fosters cybersecurity skills and career interest through hands-on learning. By prioritizing diverse student populations, GCU aims to bolster cybersecurity awareness and advocate for inclusivity in the field. Leveraging partnerships with K12 schools, we anticipate positively impacting workforce growth and increasing necessary cyber awareness skills for all involved.
Helmsley Charitable Trust – University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Sub Awardee
- Project name: Continuous Insulin-Glucose Sensor
- Dates: 2023-2025
- Description: This grant enables GCU to advance the development and testing of a continuous insulin sensor integrated with a CGM system. The project focuses on evaluating current “implantable” commercial products, refining immobilization methods, developing and testing innovative electrochemical sensors, conducting in vitro experiments, and performing small animal studies to assess in vivo functionality.
Kern Family Foundation
- Project name: Barnabas Pastoral Program at Grand Canyon University
- Dates: 2020-2028
- Description: This grant supports the launch of an accelerated pastoral degree program at GCU, enabling students to complete a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Divinity in five years. The program aims to enroll 100 students annually and fosters partnerships between GCU’s College of Theology and church communities in the southwestern United States. By combining strong theological foundations with practical ministry training, the program aims to address the shortage of pastoral leaders in Phoenix and the Southwest while reducing educational costs and time to completion.
Kern Family Foundation
- Project name: Canyon Center for Character Education
- Dates: 2022-2025
- Description: The Canyon Center for Character Education (CCCE) was established as a national preK-12 virtual hub focused on embedding character education in schools. Leveraging GCU’s College of Education’s network of over 10,000 school leaders and robust infrastructure, the center provides innovative curricular resources, virtual learning modules, and professional development opportunities to promote virtues-driven leadership and educational entrepreneurship. Through its alignment with frameworks like The Jubilee Centre’s Building Blocks of Character and GCU’s own Framework for Virtue Character Formation, CCCE aims to foster practical wisdom and human flourishing in schools nationwide.
NSF S-STEM
- Project name: Multi-contextual Applications for eXcellence in Undergraduate STEM (MAXUS) Homeroom
- Dates: 2023-2029
- Description: The MAXUS Homeroom STEM Scholars program at Grand Canyon University provides financial and academic support to high-potential, low-income students pursuing engineering degrees. Designed to meet the unique needs of first-generation and diverse students, MAXUS fosters a “home away from home” experience through high-context, community-oriented learning. Scholars benefit from specialized programming like the Homeroom model, faculty and peer mentorship, and tailored professional development, enabling their academic success and social mobility.
Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family WIOA Program
- Project name: Manufacturing Pathway to CNC Machinist Certificate
- Dates: 2024-2025
- Description: The Arizona WIOA Governor’s Discretionary Reserve Fund supports the GCU’s Center for Workforce Development’s Manufacturing Pathway for a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist Certificate. This pathway addresses labor shortages by preparing skilled machinists through comprehensive training and industry collaboration.
DoD Cyber Service Academy
- Project name: DoD Cyber Service Academy, Cybersecurity Scholarships
- Dates: 2024-2025
- Description: The Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Service Academy (CSA) aims to recruit and retain skilled cyber professionals within the DoD workforce and enhance the national pipeline of cybersecurity talent. The program provides grants to institutions designated as National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-Cs) to establish and manage full-time scholarship programs in cyber-related disciplines for the 2024-2025 academic year.
