🍁 Fall Into Learning: Winner Spotlights 🍁

Faculty Training and Development have chosen the first winner for the Fall Into Learning  with AI challenge; and it’s amazing.

This week’s spotlight is on Felicia VanDeman, who teaches COM-263 in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. For her final project, Felicia offered students three creative options to demonstrate their understanding:

  • Design a PowerPoint presentation
  • Record a video
  • Write and illustrate a children’s book using AI tools

To her surprise, nearly one-third of the class chose the children’s book project, the most challenging option. Students transformed their research into kid-friendly stories about culture and faith, pairing their narratives with AI-generated illustrations through platforms like Canva, DALL·E, and BookBolt.

📚 ✨ The results were inspiring: one student published their book on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and began earning royalties, while another enjoyed the experience so much that they started writing a second book after the course ended.

Felicia’s assignment is a powerful example of how creative uses of AI can encourage students to go beyond meeting requirements to truly fall into learning.
