Improve safety at large by implementing a private security patrol, strengthening active partnerships with Phoenix PD and developing strategies to address local community safety concerns.


Objectives

Work in tandem with community organizations to implement collaborative efforts for businesses, organizations and residents to actively participate to improve the community’s perception of safety

Support efforts at large with the City of Phoenix and Phoenix PD under the Community Safety Plan and additional safety initiatives implemented for the area

Work in tandem with schools located within the 27th Ave. Corridor to identify resources to address safety concerns on each campus

Deliverables

Starting September 1, 2024

6-9 Months

  • Implement a three-month pilot program for private security patrols
  • Identify grants available to improve safety measures in schools and communities
  • Focus on crime prevention for schools through environmental design with the Phoenix Police Department. Ensure each school has completed an assessment within the past two years
  • Identify “hot spots” for trespassing, drug activity and prostitution work in tandem with the Restoration Subcommittee to address crime and resources simultaneously

1 Year

  • Implement a private security patrol for one year, providing service 10 hours a day, seven days a week. Report findings and send monthly updates
  • Continue identifying potential funding sources to address school safety concerns through grants, foundations or other means

2 Years

  • Grow the private security patrol by:
  • Expanding boundaries
  •  Exploring a pilot program in neighborhoods
  • Supporting efforts to patrol bus stops, underpasses and other high-risk areas
  • Identify and activate all neighborhood block watches within the 27Collab area and maximize block watch grant funding
  • Support the efforts of the City of Phoenix Community Safety Plan to:
  • Improve residents’ perceptions of community safety
  • Collect survey data measuring residents’ perceptions of safety
